Mianyang doesn't just have Changhong (600839.SH); it's an underrated city

With its unique geomorphology and location, the Sichuan Basin has always been China's strategic backbone. In the 1960s of the last century, the “third tier” focused on transferring construction to Sichuan. A large number of industries such as defense and military industry, heavy energy industry, electronic information, etc. entered Sichuan, and heavy equipment from countries such as the China Object Institute, the pneumatic center, and 624 aviation development stations landed in Mianyang.

“Because it involves heavy equipment from countries such as national defense, military industry, etc., Mianyang has accumulated too many achievements that can be done but not much to talk about. As the only science and technology city in China approved by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, how has the science and technology industry developed in Mianyang, Sichuan in recent years?

The survey specifically visited Mianyang brand representative, Sichuan Changhong. A number of senior financial media people confessed that after the research, their perception of “traditional Changhong” was completely refreshed — the world's first -180℃ ultra-low temperature refrigerator, which was originally developed independently, can achieve long-term preservation of biological cells for 30 to 60 years; its pioneering X-ray flash radiotherapy device only takes a few times to complete the original one-month radiotherapy course, shortening the time for a single treatment to 1 second, and is expected to complete clinical trials within the year.

In fact, Sichuan Changhong, which was born out of a military enterprise, has now grown into a comprehensive 100 billion multinational enterprise group. Its industrial layout is not limited to smart home appliances, but also involves industries such as core components, ICT services, new energy, and semiconductors.

At Sichuan Wall Technology, the research team learned about the complete industrial chain process from silica sand to crystal silicon to chip packaging. The head of the company explained that its service customers include the international high-end brand Dyson. The chip packaging process, which originally took several days or even ten days, can now be completed within 24 hours as fast as possible.

In order to deepen understanding of Mianyang's economic development and technological development, the research team also held discussions and exchanges with departments such as the Mianyang Science and Technology Bureau, the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and the Municipal Bureau of Economics and Credit to express views on topics such as the path of enterprise capitalization and the development of emerging industries.

Ling Jianping, founder of the International Investment Bank Research Report, said that entering Mianyang, Sichuan in the context of trade frictions not only boosted confidence, but also rediscovered Sichuan and Mianyang. On the one hand, as the strategic hinterland of the country, Sichuan has a stable economy, stable society, and is capable of supporting China's development in various situations; on the other hand, Mianyang is not only a scientific and technological fulcrum of national security, but also an important source of new productivity such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and nuclear medicine. Its scientific and technological potential is seriously underestimated, and the future can be expected.

The first reaction of Bi Yajun, founder of Huashang Taolue, to Mianyang was also “beyond imagination.” He said that Mianyang has a layout in various high-precision fields such as nuclear technology, laser technology, robotics technology, and even chip materials, and has a strong industrial base, and is quite competitive throughout the country.

“I used to think Mianyang was very soft.” Investor co-founder Liu Ting came to a new understanding after a field visit: “I only discovered that its scientific and technological strength is actually very hard core.”
