The full text of the “2024 China Urban Coffee Development Report” was officially released. The report was jointly published by the Shanghai Cultural and Creative Industries Promotion Association, Hongqiao International Coffee Port, the Cultural Innovation and Youth Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Meituan, and Hungry. The report shows that the scale of China's coffee industry reached 265.4 billion yuan last year, with an average compound annual growth rate of 17.14% over the past three years. It is expected to increase to 313.3 billion yuan this year. The number of cups per capita drinks per year is 16.74 cups, which is almost double the 2016 figure of 9 cups per capita drinking per year. In 2023, the total number of coffee stores in Shanghai was 9,553, an increase of 1,023 over last year, and the number of foreign-funded coffee companies continued to lead the country. Last year, the country consumed 930 million cups of coffee through takeout channels, amounting to more than 20 billion yuan. Of these, Shanghai alone sold 160 million cups, worth more than 3.4 billion yuan, confirming the large-scale consumption of coffee in Shanghai.
